Success Story from Narconon Arrowhead's Drug Rehab Program
Before I came to Narconon Arrowhead’s Drug Treatment Center, I was a lost, confused soul. I felt that nobody cared about me. My head was confused with crazy thoughts. I was underweight and malnourished. I had a boyfriend with whom I did drugs. I had low self-esteem and I was extremely depressed. Now, after six months, I have completed the drug rehab program here and I have never felt as good as I do now. I am healthy, confident, patient and no longer depressed. I have gotten rid of the bad people in my life such as my boyfriend and some of my friends. I have made new, wonderful friends here at drug rehab who I want always to be in touch with. Addiction
Addiction is a condition characterized by repeated, compulsive seeking and use of drugs, alcohol, or other substances despite social, mental, and physical consequences.
It is usually accompanied by psychological and physical dependence on the abused substance and the appearance of withdrawal symptoms when the addictive substance is rapidly decreased or terminated.
When
addiction exists, the
drug use controls the individual rather than the individual controlling the usage.
Many of today’s
illegal drugs are extremely addictive as well a many
prescription drugs – particularly ones for depression and sleep problems, as well as painkillers.

Methamphetamine
addiction is growing at alarming rates in all areas of the country and has reached epidemic proportions.
All drug
addiction takes you one of two places unless sobriety for a lifetime is achieved – death or jail.
Methamphetamine takes one on this downward slide with alarming speed.
Methamphetamine quickly burns up the body’s resources creating horrible dependence that can only be relieved by more of the drug. In 2005, 58% of all U.S. law enforcement personnel identified methamphetamine
abuse and addiction as their biggest drug problem.
The dangers and harm done by marijuana use has been under debate for decades and show no signs of lessening.
Whether marijuana
addiction exists or not is even more hotly debated.

treatment reporting marijuana as their primary drug of abuse. Add to this the much stronger strains of marijuana available and the tendency to mix the drug with other substances such or crack and PCP and the potential for addiction becomes more pronounced.
Rather than endlessly debate the issue, one should simply look at the marijuana use of self or a loved one against the above definition.
As an opiate, regular use of methadone causes physical dependency - if you've been using it regularly (prescribed or not) once you stop you will experience a withdrawal. The physical changes due to the drug are similar to other opiates (like heroin). If you are a woman using methadone you may not have regular periods - but you are still able to conceive. Methadone is a long-acting opioid; it has an effect for up to 36 hours (if you are using methadone you will not withdraw for this period) A Personal story of methadone withdrawal:
“I've been on both ends of withdrawals, heroin and methadone, every patient of methadone will always tell you the same, as I do; I can kick heroin anytime, but methadone that is something else. In 15 yrs of heroin addiction, I've kicked 3 times, 'cold-turkey'. In 10 years on methadone I've never kicked methadone.”
At Narconon Arrowhead we do not use the term
rehab patient when referring to our program participants. Instead we use the word “student” as it more accurately reflects what is occurring in our program. At Narconon Arrowhead once withdrawal from use is achieved and is followed by a full bodily
detoxification then student is then ready to gain the life skills and abilities needed to pursue a drug free productive life.
Cravings, guilt and depression must be confronted, dealt with, and eliminated is one is to achieve a lasting drug free existence.
